Dear Merici Community,
Recently we were able to enjoy “The best of the best”, our PARENTS’ festival, which was a celebration of life and joy for the preschool community and showed the positive atmosphere of teamwork, learning and participation, as well as the creative spirit that seems to have no limits.
In contrast, in the company of the parents and teachers of CCH-Preparatoria, we experienced the Graduation of our 6th year Baccalaureate students, a solemn and profound act, which allowed us to celebrate the closing of this great stage as well as the collective and individual achievements of our graduates. As we pointed out, graduating from Merici is much more than certifying their competence in science, languages or humanities. It implies embodying a profile of a person, who goes out into the world and who, despite being in complex or adverse contexts, dares to act out of conviction and to make a difference in their different environments.
We are about to complete the third application of MAP in the different sections, which will provide us with important information about the progress of our students in the current year and compare it to the previous one. We will continue to exploit this tool further by making it more accessible to teachers, parents and students, as its richness lies in all the readings, interpretations and actions we can take based on the information it provides. For the time being, these weeks have also been useful to reinforce key concepts and knowledge for each grade.
In the following weeks we will have important events aimed at sharing and celebrating learning and carrying out reflective evaluation exercises on the understanding of concepts and the processes that our students have undergone along the way.
In Middle School we will be experiencing the “Student-led conferences” and the exhibition of the transformational projects in Primary. The student-led conferences are still in preparation and dates will be announced to join us virtually. As for the primary grade transformational projects’ showcase, parents will be invited -in person- and primary will be providing parents with the times and dates for each grade. Also in primary, there will be an opportunity for a closing evaluation – virtual – which will provide an additional opportunity to assess our students’ progress and set new goals for the next school year.
Finally, don’t forget about our forthcoming closing ceremonies for the students who finish Preschool, Primary and Middle School. For them and their families we will have in-person academic events at the school. On Thursday 7th July it will be Secondary, Friday 8th July Pre-school and Saturday 9th July Primary. Let us celebrate the closure of these unique stages in the lives of our children/students and may we accompany them as they move with enthusiasm towards their new challenges, always preserving their love of learning and curiosity.
In the first fortnight of July we will publish the MERICI 22-23 School Calendar and the lists of school supplies for each grade. I dare to anticipate that the start of classes for CCH-Preparatoria is August 15th and for Pre-school, Primary and Secondary, August 29th.
Kind regards,
Prof. Alfonso García Williams,
Head of School.
