Investigación y creatividad desde beginners
En el proyecto actual de Beginners, nos hemos adentrado en el fascinante mundo de las aves, una experiencia que ha permitido a nuestros alumnos explorar y aprender sobre estas increíbles criaturas de una manera especial. Cada estudiante eligió su ave favorita y, a partir de esta elección, preparó una presentación única para compartir con los demás grupos.
Desde el inicio del proyecto, el entusiasmo fue evidente. Al investigar sobre su ave elegida, descubrieron datos fascinantes y también demostraron gran creatividad al representarla.
Como cierre del proyecto, los alumnos presentaron su trabajo durante nuestra asamblea, un espacio seguro donde pudieron poner en práctica sus habilidades de expresión oral y fortalecer su confianza al hablar en público.
Prefirst Reading Adventure!
The Pre-first students have kicked off an exciting new reading adventure filled with fun activities! Their high school buddies visited the library to read captivating stories, bringing the characters to life and sparking imaginations. At home, students are diving into books, discovering new worlds, and sharing their thoughts with their families. During morning assemblies, they proudly present their book reports, each one filled with enthusiasm and creativity. This adventure is turning every page into a new experience, making reading more thrilling than ever before!

Aprendizaje en acción: juegos, ecosistemas y experimentos
Para crecer en un ambiente sano y seguro, los alumnos de primero de primaria indagaron sobre las prácticas sociales y culturales de ayer y hoy. Se plantearon preguntas relacionadas con los juegos que sus abuelos pudieron haber jugado cuando tenían su edad.
Con gran creatividad, elaboraron y decoraron sus propias canicas. Luego, dedicaron tiempo al juego, donde enfrentaron el desafío de calcular la fuerza del tiro y acertar en las canicas de sus compañeros. Además, realizaron ajustes a las reglas, aprendiendo y conviviendo de manera sana, tanto de forma individual como en parejas o en grupo.
Los alumnos de segundo grado investigaron sobre los ecosistemas como parte de su proyecto sobre cómo los cambios afectan la vida y el entorno. Observaron la gran variedad de transformaciones en distintos ecosistemas, tanto en los seres vivos como en los elementos no vivos que los componen. Analizaron las relaciones entre los organismos y su entorno, reflexionaron sobre la cantidad de algunos de ellos y en qué momento se les considera recursos naturales. A través de un juego con bloques de diferentes colores, representaron distintos recursos y discutieron el impacto de eventos naturales como incendios, sequías o lluvias torrenciales.
Para contribuir a un mejor entorno para las plantas, los alumnos de tercer grado investigaron los tipos de suelos más favorables para su crecimiento. Realizaron experimentos para observar procesos como la transpiración y la fotosíntesis. Además, elaboraron diversos productos según los usos de las plantas, como una mascarilla de sábila, que probaron y comprobaron sus propiedades hidratantes y suavizantes para la piel. Otros diseñaron carteles sobre plantas medicinales o construyeron un horno solar para deshidratar frutos.

Final reflection on MeriMUN 2025.
MeriMUN 2025 was an invaluable opportunity for students to develop essential skills that will serve them in academic, professional, and real world settings. Throughout the event, students engaged in critical thinking, effective communication, and collaboration, which are key competencies for future leaders and global citizens.
The event challenged students to analyze complex global issues, construct well-founded arguments, and engage in meaningful debate. Beyond strengthening their research and public speaking skills, MeriMUN fostered diplomacy, adaptability, and confidence, empowering students to articulate their perspectives while considering diverse viewpoints.
Moreover, the experience of preparing for and participating in MeriMUN reinforced the importance of responsibility, organization, and teamwork. By simulating real world decision-making processes, students gained firsthand insight into the intricacies of international relations and the power of thoughtful negotiation.
As we conclude this edition of MeriMUN, we celebrate the dedication and growth of all participants. Their commitment to learning, collaboration, and global awareness was a testament to the bright future ahead. We appreciate the support of parents and educators in guiding students through this transformative experience.

Investment in books for the English department
Connecting creative minds with endless possibilities.
We are very happy to provide an update with the use of the “cuota ingles” to announce that the English Department has used the money to invest in over 1,500 books! This initiative ensures that all students have greater access to a wide range of literature, putting physical books back into the hands of children. We know the direct connection between love for reading and academic success, which is why we will continue to nurture this interest in books.
Merici English Support Programme
A child who is supported, becomes a confident person.
We are proud that our Merici English Support Programme (ESP) is live and selected students are using this programme. We have been working very hard for months to put this 16 week programme together to give the amount of support to our students that they need to improve. All our teachers across the school have helped record lessons to give you a diverse and interesting course outside of school. The aim of this course is to quickly raise their level in a short time by reviewing and building on fundamental parts of the English language.

Manejo y separación de desechos sólidos
El manejo y la separación de los desechos sólidos en la comunidad Merici tienen múltiples propósitos tanto educativos como ecológicos. Entre ellos se encuentran la transformación de hábitos de consumo, la reducción del impacto ambiental de la institución, la disminución de la producción de desechos y el fomento de la conciencia y el compromiso social y ambiental.
Para alcanzar estos objetivos, el colegio cuenta con botes de separación identificados por colores:
Etiqueta roja: pañuelos desechables, servilletas, papel sanitario y toallas húmedas desechables.
Etiqueta azul: residuos inorgánicos como plásticos y latas.
Etiqueta verde: residuos orgánicos.
Cajas en salones: recolección de papel.
Los desechos separados se almacenan temporalmente en el centro de acopio, donde son recolectados periódicamente por empresas recicladoras. Actualmente, mantenemos alianzas con dos organizaciones comprometidas con el cuidado del medio ambiente:
IMU Muebles: Se encarga de la recolección de pilas y nos permite participar en su concurso anual “Nuestro planeta es la neta”.
Grupo Promesa: Recolecta mensualmente 16 tipos de residuos, divididos en dos categorías:
Residuos con valor monetario: papel blanco, papel de color y mixto, periódico, cartón, latas de fierro y aluminio, PET, plástico duro (HDPE) y vidrio.
Residuos destinados a donación: envases multicapa (para construcción de techos), tapitas (para fundaciones contra el cáncer infantil), cápsulas de café, cáscaras de huevo, envases de Danonino, gelatinas y flanes, electrónicos y ropa o tela en mal estado.
Cada mes, Grupo Promesa nos entrega un reporte con nuestros logros ambientales y realiza visitas a nuestras instalaciones para actividades de concienciación con alumnos de Preescolar y Primaria.
¡Súmate a nuestras iniciativas de reciclaje! Recuerda traer tus residuos los jueves y viernes por la mañana y dejarlos debajo de la palmera, junto a la jaula de PET, cerca de la entrada principal. Cada acción cuenta para cuidar nuestro planeta.

AI and education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation
Assemblies that provoke reflection and imagination
Our January assemblies looked at key statistics regarding AI in education and global disparities in service provision. Early years reflected on why we go to school, whilst upper primary looked at classrooms around the world.
Our February assemblies focused on Social Justice following the UN call for ‘strengthening a just transition for a sustainable future. Our youngest students explored the meaning and significance of social justice whilst older students considered what role they could play in helping to construct a more just society.

Dedicating time and energy in the interests of our planet’s wellbeing
January classroom visits to Preschool and Primary to reflect on the impact of our actions on the natural world.
¡Mucha lata!
Las latas de aluminio sí fueron contabilizadas en los equipos blanco y azul. El equipo blanco obtuvo 10 puntos adicionales, mientras que el equipo azul sumó 15 puntos más.
Agradecemos a las familias de preescolar y primaria que participaron trayendo latas y animamos a toda nuestra comunidad a seguir apoyando la campaña permanente de reciclaje. La aportación de desechos sólidos de casa, los jueves y viernes de cada semana, ayudará a incrementar nuestro impacto en la lucha contra la contaminación en la ciudad.
¿Cómo podemos ayudar a las aves a encontrar un lugar seguro para vivir y garantizar que tengan suficiente alimento cerca de nuestra escuela o casa?
En el entorno urbano donde se encuentra nuestra escuela, las aves enfrentan grandes desafíos para encontrar refugio y fuentes constantes de alimentación, lo que afecta tanto su bienestar como el equilibrio del ecosistema local. Por ello, exploramos cómo pequeñas acciones colectivas pueden generar un impacto positivo en la biodiversidad de nuestra comunidad.
A través de la investigación y la observación, los alumnos concluyeron que la escasez de aves en la escuela probablemente se deba a la falta de alimento y agua. Para ayudar a revertir esta situación, decidieron construir comederos y colgarlos en los árboles, brindando un espacio donde las aves puedan alimentarse.
Con este proyecto, fomentamos el interés y respeto por el medio ambiente, promovemos la participación en actividades al aire libre que contribuyan a la conservación de la fauna y fortalecemos habilidades como la colaboración, la comunicación y la expresión creativa.
TECHO. Empathy in Action – Volunteering to make a difference
On Saturday the 22nd of February Prepa students joined the cause to help build decent homes for families living in inadequate and insecure homes. The students joined other young people from colleges and universities who are all committed to making a difference.
SER Soc. Clubs with clout – standing out and standing up for action!
Our lunchtime action societies are taking form. Our Secondary SER Soc students have had a few design challenges and are looking to see how they can turn these experiences into fundraising opportunities. Whilst our Prepa SER Soc had a Pizza-Planning session to organize a fundraising football tournament for our next Comedor Rodante initiative.
Library
Teachers and students come and go to the library either to study for the MeriMUN, exams or just to come in and get cozy and read.
The science teachers have been coming into the library with their classes this month to have their students learn how to look up in reference books what they are learning in the classroom.
There was a selection of reference books set up on the book cart for them to look through. Books that they never imaged using, like encyclopedias and quick reference books on certain topics.

Here’s a few students from Miss Catalina’s class who are reading books like the red encyclopedia and other types of reference books because they are doing investigative research for a class project.
The library has a big black bulletin board where different pictures of the evolution of these students and their investigative research has taken place. Coming into the library and finding the right book, then reading and writing down information, there are even pictures of the covers of books they used. It was set up like a tree is connecting with its branches and leafs the different step that took place while investigating.

Not only did they participate in the BUDDY and I activity, but all of the 6º preparatory graders did too. They read to the pre first graders.
